CYNDI LAUPER: Time After Time

Posted in Music on May 29, 2008 by Jennifer

I love this song… that’s really all I have to say about it! :-)

“Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion
Is nothing new
Flashback warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after

Sometimes you picture me
I’m walking too far ahead
You’re calling to me, I can’t hear
What you’ve said
Then you say go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I’ll be waiting
Time after time

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I’ll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows you’re wondering
If I’m OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I’ll be waiting
Time after time

You said go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I’ll be waiting
Time after time

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time

Time after time
Time after time
Time after time

Eddie Rabbitt: I Love A Rainy Night

Posted in Life, Music on May 27, 2008 by Jennifer

I know, I know… I’ve said a thousand times that I hate country music.  But, technically, this is a pop song by a predominantly country artist… so it’s still true.  Right?  Right.  Anyway, it’s a good thing I love a rainy night, because I’m going to get one. :-)

“I Love A Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbitt

Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

Well, I love a rainy night
It’s such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
Taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadow

Showers washed
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day
‘Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night

I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

Well, I love a rainy night
It’s such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
To taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadows

Puts a song
In this heart of mine
Puts a smile on my face every time

‘Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Ooh, I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night

Showers washed
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day
‘Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
You can see it in my eyes
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, it makes me high
Ooh, I love a rainy night
You know I do, yeah, yeah
I love a rainy night

GENESIS: Evidence of Autumn

Posted in Music on May 20, 2008 by Jennifer

One of my fave lesser known GENESIS songs… written by the fabulous Tony Banks.

“Evidence of Autumn” by Tony Banks of GENESIS

The girl from all those songs
Who made everything feel right
She came in like an angel, into your lonely life
And filling your world with light
Oh, and everybody told you “you’re oh so lucky”

Curtains part revealing a country scene
Clothed in green and brown
Evidence of autumn
And recent rain
On a winding lane, a byway
Walking on that road is a certain girl
In all the world the one
Guaranteed to move you and turn your head
When all’s been said and done

The girl from all those songs
Who made everything feel right
She came in like an angel, into your lonely life
And filling your world with light
Oh, and everybody told you “you’re oh so lucky”

The night is clear but cool
Ooh maybe dawn is breaking as you turn to find her gone
Then you see the note
Ooh you cannot believe it
And you think you’ll go insane…

But that was many years ago
And though the pain is dim
A something still remains
Though you hardly can recall
Her face or form
Her memory lingers on
Ooh she made everything feel right
She came in like an angel (in like an angel),
Into your lonely life (into your life)
And filling your world with light
Oh and everybody told you “you’re oh so lucky”

DANNY WILDE: Time Runs Wild

Posted in Life, Music on May 16, 2008 by Jennifer

I love this song, but not in the same way I did when I first heard it on the soundtrack of Dream A Little Dream in 1989.  I actually get it now…

MOODY BLUES: “The Story In Your Eyes”

Posted in Life, Music on May 13, 2008 by Jennifer

Another fave…

“The Story In Your Eyes” by The Moody Blues

I've been thinking about our fortune
And I've decided that we're really not to blame
For the love that's deep inside us now
Is still the same

And the sounds we make together
Is the music to the story in your eyes
It's been shining down upon me now
I realize

Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We're part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day

But I'm frightened for your children
That the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain

Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We're part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day

But I'm frightened for the children
That the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain

When the final line is over
It's certain that the curtain's gonna fall
I can hide inside your sweet sweet love
For ever more

GENESIS: Follow You, Follow Me

Posted in Life, Music on May 13, 2008 by Jennifer

The first Genesis song I fell in love with…  I could listen to it over and over — I think I will! :-)

“Follow You, Follow Me” by GENESIS

Stay with me,
My love I hope you’ll always be
Right here by my side if ever I needed you
Oh my love

In your arms,
I feel so safe and so secure
Everyday is such a perfect day to spend
Alone with you

I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year

With the dark,
I see so very clearly now
All my fears are drifting by me so slowly now
Fading away

I can say
The night is long but you are there
Close at hand I’m better for the smile you give
And while I live

I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year there will be

I will follow you …

This Wheel’s on Fire

Posted in Life, Music on May 7, 2008 by Jennifer

This one brings back memories of Sambuca, Ab Fab, Dunkin’ Donuts at 3am, and a time when I was much more optimistic.  I know better now.  Sandy, where’d you go when I left?  The last time I saw you, I took you a carton of smokes and snuck them behind locked doors.  I told you that you shouldn’t have fucked up your foot like that, but I promised I’d take you to the VA afterwards.  I’m good to my word.

I never said I’d lie to the doctor though… hope you’re finally well.

I’ve discovered that the best way to close a chapter of your life is to write a new one…

“Wheel’s on Fire” by Bob Dylan

If your mem’ry serves you well,
We were goin’ to meet again and wait,
So I’m goin’ to unpack all my things
And sit before it gets too late.
No man alive will come to you
With another tale to tell,
But you know that we shall meet again
If your mem’ry serves you well.
This wheel’s on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!

If your mem’ry serves you well,
I was goin’ to confiscate your lace,
And wrap it up in a sailor’s knot
And hide it in your case.
If I knew for sure that it was yours . . .
But it was oh so hard to tell.
But you knew that we would meet again,
If your mem’ry serves you well.
This wheel’s on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!

If your mem’ry serves you well,
You’ll remember you’re the one
That called on me to call on them
To get you your favors done.
And after ev’ry plan had failed
And there was nothing more to tell,
You knew that we would meet again,
If your mem’ry served you well.
This wheel’s on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!

PULP: Common People

Posted in Life, Music on May 7, 2008 by Jennifer
I've seen both sides now... but if I had to choose, I'd choose... ???
Funny thing about the nature of humanity.  We always wish for what's
just out of our reach...

"Common People" by Pulp
She came from Greece,
she had a thirst for knowledge,
she studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College,
that's where I, caught her eye.
She told me that her Dad was loaded,
I said "In that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola."
She said "Fine."
And in thirty seconds time she said,

"I want to live like common people,
I want to do whatever common people do,
I want to sleep with common people,
I want to sleep with common people,
like you."

Well what else could I do -
I said "I'll see what I can do."
I took her to a supermarket,
I don't know why, but I had to start it somewhere,
so it started there.

I said pretend you've got no money,
she just laughed and said, "Oh you're so funny."
I said "yeah?
Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here.
Are you sure you want to live like common people,
you want to see
Whatever common people see,
you want to sleep with common people,
you want to sleep with common people,
like me."

But she didn't understand,
she just smiled and held my hand.

Rent a flat above a shop,
cut your hair and get a job.
Smoke some fags and play some pool,
pretend you never went to school.
But still you'll never get it right,
cos when you're laid in bed at night,
watching roaches climb the wall,
if you call your Dad he could stop it all.

You'll never live like common people,
you'll never do what common people do,
you'll never fail like common people,
you'll never watch your life slide out of view,
and dance and drink and screw,
because there's nothing else to do.

Sing along with the common people,
sing along and it might just get you through,
laugh along with the common people,
laugh along even though they're laughing at you,
and the stupid things that you do...

Because you think that poor is cool.

SNOW PATROL: Hands Open

Posted in Music on May 7, 2008 by Jennifer

“Hands Open” by Snow Patrol

It’s hard to argue when
you won’t stop making sense
But my tongue still misbehaves and it
keeps digging my own grave with my

Hands open, and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens

Why would I sabotage
the best thing that I have
Well, it makes it easier to know
exactly what I want with my…

Hands open and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
that your heart opens

It’s not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it’s right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy

Put Sufjan Stevens on
and we’ll play your favorite song
“Chicago” bursts to life and your
sweet smile remembers you, my

Hands open, and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens

It’s not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it’s right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy
